The Trout Hotel

The Trout Hotel, located in Cumbria, the Lake District, has been operating for over 35 years.

The hotel includes accommodation, The Terrace Bar, Bistro and the Derwent Restaurant. A leading wedding venue, the hotel is renowned for providing guests with a first class venue with a warm welcome assured.

A recent break in the hotel resulted in copper pipes being stolen and extensive damage to the property, including the industrial heating system. Not only was this an expense in itself but it could have potentially inconvenienced customers through the lack of hot water.

The hotel’s security advisor, Peter Appleby, wanted to upgrade their CCTV equipment in the hope that the use of 24 hr CCTV surveillance would not only prevent any criminal activity but enable specific members of staff to monitor the activity and requirements of hotel guests. Previously the hotel was using a 4 channel digital video recorder with 4 day/night cameras. Although the system worked well, the hotel wanted to expand the system to cater for additional cameras and allow them to benefit from the latest technology.

Due to the age of the property, over 340 years old, cabling was a potential challenge. The management of the hotel wanted the installation to be discreet, without any cabling on display and with tidy equipment.

Blenheim Security Installers, chosen to provide the CCTV system at the Trout Hotel, selected LILIN products for the installation. After recommendation from the installer and a thorough understanding of the unique requirements of the project, Chris Young from Blenheim Security chose a LILIN digital video recorder, mini dome cameras and TFT screens to monitor the premises.

At the site there is a 16 channel digital video recorder and various varifocal mini dome cameras located throughout the hotel. The positioning of cameras within the bar and reception areas has also improved the level of customer service the hotel can provide. By viewing the images staff can see when the relevant areas become busy and can allocate resources accordingly. The installation also improves security for the night porter.

The installation of the cameras allows the site manager, security manager and the hotel owner to monitor activities at the hotel. The ability to view the images remotely ensures piece of mind for the management even when they are not on site.

Excellent quality and support from the products and LILIN has been the success for this application. Chris Young, Managing Director of Blenheim Security explained “We have constantly received a good service from all the staff at LILIN, right through from sales to technical support. Our client is really pleased with the results, from the ease of use, the reliability and the great pricing”.

LILIN products provide the flexibility and manageability to be used in a number of applications. Staff have been extremely impressed with the CCTV equipment and plan to expand the system. Additional cameras and monitors are to be fitted throughout the hotel in the near future.
